1. Information used by the iPhone app

Device-local profile and cache

The app stores your boat details and limits, saved locations, favorites, app preferences, and recently fetched forecast snapshots on your device. Forecast snapshots support loading and limited offline use and are replaced or treated as stale as conditions age.

Forecast and catalog requests

The app sends Boat or Nope the destination identifier needed to return the catalog and conditions you request. Conditions requests also include an opaque boat type or identifier, numeric wind and wave comfort limits, outing duration, and requested forecast day so the service can calculate a personalized call. Custom boat names, make, and model remain on your device and are not included in those requests. Catalog search happens on your device; the current app does not send your search terms or device coordinates and does not request your device's precise location permission.

No mobile account or advertising profile

The current iPhone app does not upload your device-local boat profile or favorites for account sync. It does not include third-party advertising, behavioral analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs.

2. Information used by the website

Local boating profile

Without signing in, the website stores your selected boat, limits, outing length, home harbor, and favorites in your browser's local storage.

Optional Google sign-in and profile sync

If you choose Google sign-in, Google provides a verified account identity, including your email address, so Boat or Nope can authenticate the session. The synced boating profile is stored in ClickHouse under a one-way keyed account identifier rather than your raw email address. It can include your selected boat, custom boats and limits, outing length, home harbor, favorites, and last-updated time.

Optional destination suggestions

If you explicitly submit a named map point for editorial review, Boat or Nope stores the name, exact coordinates, nearby source bindings, submission time, and review state. Suggestions are never published automatically.

3. Feedback and support

If you email ahoy@boatornope.com or hello@boatornope.com, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments or details you choose to send. The iPhone feedback action may prepare app version, build, iOS version, and general device type in an editable draft. It does not automatically include boats, saved locations, coordinates, forecasts, or logs.

4. Operations, logs, and service providers

The forecast values described above are processed to answer each request. Successful mobile API responses can remain in Vercel's short-lived response cache for up to one hour, including its stale-if-error window, to improve availability during an upstream outage.

Standard Vercel Runtime Logs may retain normalized request and destination paths, request time, response status, processing region, invocation details, and network or security details such as an IP address and user agent for about one day. Boat or Nope does not combine this operational data with an account, device identifier, or mobile profile and does not use it to identify a person. Boat or Nope has no active external Log Drain, third-party application-performance monitor, Web Analytics, or Speed Insights collection. This operational processing is used for app functionality, security, diagnosis, and service operation—not for advertising profiles or cross-app tracking.

The website loads map content from OpenFreeMap and fonts from Google Fonts, so those providers receive the network information needed to serve those resources. Optional Google sign-in is governed by Google's terms and privacy policy. Apple processes App Store, device, and MapKit activity under Apple's policies; your chosen email provider processes support messages you send. Forecast data is assembled from public sources including NWS, NOAA, NDBC, CO-OPS, and AviationWeather.

5. Retention and your choices

• iPhone data: remove saved items in the app or delete the app and its data from your device.
• Browser-local data: remove individual profile items or clear Boat or Nope site data in your browser.
• Synced website profile: use Remove cloud copy in My boating. This leaves the browser-local profile in place.
• Location suggestions: raw suggestions are configured to expire after two years. Approved public destination data and editorial audit records may remain as part of the operating catalog.
• Support: messages are kept as needed to answer the request, resolve recurring problems, and meet operational or legal obligations.

6. Children, security, and changes

Boat or Nope is not directed to children under 13. We use administrative, technical, and product safeguards appropriate to the information described here, but no internet or storage system is completely secure.

We may update this policy when the product or its data practices change. We will update the date above and provide additional notice when a change materially affects how personal information is handled.
